A Frankly brilliant night

The 5th of July saw Veneratio in fundraising mode at The Warren in Hayes, Kent, successfully bringing to the coffers several hundred pounds for our "Moving Pictures"* project.

Frank. Captivating
An audience of local people turned out to enjoy a dinner, an auction, and a talk and question and answer session from our patron, actor Frank Williams.  As "The Reverend" from Dad's Army (later promoted, as he said, to Bishop in "You Rang, M'Lord", Frank held us fascinated by his account of past shows, film and stage, and the people he encountered along the way.

Veneratio's founder, Bethany Russell, spoke and made the point that she had only recently discovered that our motto, "Never too old", was the title of the final episode of the "Dad's Army" television series Frank Williams is famous for.

We would like to thank:

- Frank Williams, for joining us and speaking so wonderfully, and Cannon Cars for providing free, and very punctual, transport for Frank to and from his home;

- All of our volunteers who again gave freely of their valuable time;

- The Warren for looking after us so well;

- Printing.com in Orpington and especially Manager Gary Morris for providing a splendid display stand that helped provide a dignified backdrop to the evening;

- Edmund Estate Agents, and especially partner Tim Keenan in their Green Street Green branch, who has helped fund some of our activities and for this event our print costs and also several of our raffle prizes

Other prize suppliers:

- For the auction, and the two Olympic themed prints signed by the man who delivered a wonderful Olympics and Paralympics, Lord Sebastian Coe;

- For the raffle, The King's Head Hotel in Westerham;

- Others to be added.

* The Moving Pictures Project

Moving Pictures is our mobile cinema project which will bring films and documentaries to communal lounges in care homes and retirement flats. Many lounges are seldom used despite being the main social hub for many physically restricted and often totally isolated residents; our innovative way of bringing people together and introducing some showbiz vitality to them will enable people to enjoy film accessibly, and with their friends.
